*****Warning - Spoilers Ahead*****
I was just bored so I went through my DVD collection of unwatched movies and I came up with DVD Screener of ‘Hostel’. After watching the movie my first thoughts were ‘Why the fuck did they have to flash Quentin Tarantino’s name so many times in the cast ?’. Not that I hated this movie but just to ensure quality he didn’t have to be included for this was far from his stuff. I am his huge fan and I feel sorry for he must have felt like an idiot to give his name for a movie like this.
I am a kind of person who can watch 5-6 movies in a day without getting tired. but, I should say that after all the sex, blood, gore and shock value served raw this movie left me pretty much exhausted. The feel was very reminiscent of the Saw movies to me, which I think are a great concept in and of themselves but ‘Hostel’ itself had nothing of a great story line. Let me sum up the movie to make myself clear :-
Three backpackers, two Americans and one Icelander, tour europe with an intension of getting as hisgh as they can and as many chicks as they can screw. In Amsterdam they accidently come to know of a place Slovakia where sex-mad women thirst for men in general, and American men in particular. They of course decide to go there and at first it seems the rumors were true. But they soon learn that the hostel is nothing more than a front for a bizarre club called ‘Elite Hunting‘ where one can pay for torturing and killing humans.
The first part of the movie is something more of a cheesy teen sex comedy with lots of fake boob jobs and subjects clubbing in unrealistic discos with loud music where you can still talk in normal volume. The rest of the part of Hostel develops an interesting premise and is better seen in ignorance of any plot summaries/background information on the movie. In the style of Asian horror, there is plenty of over-the-top gore, and in the style of campy American horror, there’s plenty of nudity, but this doesn’t detract from the ability of the director, Eli Roth, to take us to new and ever darker places as the plot thickens, building suspense right up to the gratifying finale. The end of the movie serves sweet revenge with the escaped torture victim making one of the torturers taste his own medicine by severing the fingers and then killing him.
This movie left me with a mixed feeling. No doubt this movie kept me didn’t let me take my eyes off the screen for a split second and I thoroughly enjoyed it but it did lack in creativity ,storyline and acting with the first time average actors. The movie had a better scope and what was served raw could have been made more beautiful. If your expectations are low enough, and your tastes in gore sufficiently robust, then you are in for a good time. Otherwise, skip this and see a classic Hitchcock film. You’ll feel better about yourself. I gotta give this one a 7.5/10 for its sheer entertainment factor
In movies like this who gives a damm abt the story line. Its the visuals that are captivating and that does the trick.
In case you have not, catch “A History of Violence”. No story and all but the concept and visuals are amazing.
and now the hunt begins for a copy of HOSTEL…
I think the only thing linking Hostel to Tarantino was one scene of Pulp Fiction, when these guys check into the hotel room. I completely agree with, “and your tastes in gore sufficiently robust, then you are in for a good time.“
the scene in pulp fiction where bruce willis gets free from zed and flees but then comes back is mirror image of this torture victim perhaps thats why quentin’s name was plastered all over this (keeps the lawsuits away)
what a film! if you fancy mentally disturbing yourself then this is the film for you.
the story line isnt amazing but the blood guts and gore make up it. definatly not a film for th faint hearted or GIRLS.
I unfortunatly had the opportunity of borrowing this this film off a friend, what a big mistake.
I have never been so scared in my entire life, i started to watch the film the dark but had to switch the light on a quarter the way through. I dont even know how the film has managed to be allowed it should be banned, the gore is unbelievable. I felt sick watching it and am having trouble stomaching certain foods since.
WARNING if you dont fancy messing up your sleep pattern then make sure you stay away from this film.
as soon as i finish watching the moving,
i feel the shadow side of the human beings.
it seems that i have to watch out every second,
whenever i leave me country or home.
it is sweet that escaped tortured victim can kick that
discussed pervert a big asss
I watched the movie & I liked it,for one reason & one reason only, the blood, the gore, the severed arms & legs and the screams… I am a big fan of QT & liked Kill Bill very much. I have to say that I liked Saw more than Hostel simply because Saw had a storyline & an unhappy ending. The happy ending in Hostel made me feel a little better at the end…but didn’t fit the profile of the “blood & gore” fest it was depicted to be. I personally think QT is brilliant in creating a very sick, dark & scary background & cast. All the people who showed their faces in Hostel, were either ugly or disformed is some way, except the two girls who were beautiful in a disturbing kind of way… This was the first movie I have watched that actually made me sick & during the first minutes when the cutting began I actually considered to get up & go… Keeping in mind that I payed for the ticket, I still wanted to see what all the fuss was about…and I saw. The movie made me think about how sick & cruel people can be. How dark a place a human mind can be…and I started to worry…
I watched the film i’m not really into jumpy horrors so i liked it you got the horror without the jumps… i thought the film was great but you never saw anything, you dint see the drilling, burning, cutting or anything that let it down you only saw where he cut his fingers off at the end. can people be that sick really??? how can you even think about it to make the film in the 1st place very sick but interesting..
Movie was a good ‘worth seeing it once’ flick. Plenty of gore, torture, sex, madness, etc. Good ending. Prick gets what’s coming. Still, the fact remains…..Always, ALWAYS arm yourself with .45 with at least 25 rounds of ammo and a plan B. Cheers.
U have got a great blog. i am impressed.
keep it up.

this movie was probobly the best horror movie i have ever watched because it is real.. not in a sense that its based on true facts but because it includs everything a horror movie should have.. blood, some weird company which actually is a real company to say.. and saves animals not kills humans, anyways i could barely even keep my eyes open during this movie. although its a good horror movie it is not much to my liking because of the scenes. they were very disturbing and just sick i mean a plain sick man could only think of such horrible torture. horror movies are getting now way out of hand, especially this one, i would rather jump off a building then watch this again.. sorry , but good try.
The film is good but a little bit crazy ,after watching such movies the movie will cause to death of people ,
The movie is allegedly based on true events. This is just crap. Apparently there was an urban myth that an operation like this was operating in thailand with poor villages as victems but even that is a stretch.
.
The snowtown murders were the only thing I can think of that is similar.

Are you people insane?!! I highly dislike horrore movies for their sheer lack of ingenuity and lameness, but THIS! This is an actually masterpeice. Albeit the end was somewhat sudden and left you in mid step, the rest was great. This storyline required an imagination that must’ve given someone headaches to come up with. I’m still searching for the reason this flick has an ‘inspired by true events’ annotation on the cover, but awsome flick. It soooo reminded me of the years I spent traveling in Europe. Hasto luego, adios.
Lol, I thought the movie want gory enough. I think that if they ahd spent more time on the shear terror of being tortured and having your life dangle in a sick mans hands then it would be a truely terrifying movie. I also think that the whole revenge plot was rediculous and it wouldve left fear in the audiences hearts if they had caught the main character while escaping, and in the main credits you can hear him scream and cry with bone crucnhing/sawing in the background.
25000 $ kill
i just woched and i thoght it was a cool movie. Yes its got good sex scenes that wot horros film needs. But when it came to the gore scenes they were good but didnt have enough
this film was great.but it left me thinking that it could
happen(somewhere in the world).i then went out and got myself a copy and watched it again and again and it still worried me.
Has anyone checked out http://www.elitehunting.rus…you will not find it but try http://www.elitehunting.ru maybe you will know some more!!!!!
you big spender!
You can see its a Tarantino movie on the effects in the factory. The sounds the blodd the fear! And the movie is based up on a true story, it was a factory you could pay to kill people. sick!
I don’t understand what everyone’s talking about. Honestly, the storyline is definately just the same thing we’ve seen over and over, but they’ve made it far more original this time around.
It leaves you asking so many questions throughout the movie, and at the end, answers them all in such a quick swing.
This Movie has a good sense of humor at first - a bit quirky, with characters who all have their odd little traits.
Hostel is a good movie, with plenty of mindfucks.
I’d say watch it, regardless of what you think, as long as you enjoy suspense, thrills, horror, blood, and boobs. haha.
That’s kinda scary, http://www.elitehunting.ru
Hi, I tried checking out the site elitehunting.ru but I can’t since it asks for a password I obviously don’t have. Can anyone talk about the contents of this website?
When I saw this movie y didn’t think much about the sex scenes, but then I read many boards making such a big deal about all the sex. Honestly, I didn’t even notice that it was too much for a horror movie.
And yes, I’m a girl.
Ceck this mail elitehunting.tripod.com
Scary… It makes you want to buy a handgun just to be safe
This film was pretty nasty and disturbing but to be honest thought the lame plot and lame first half ruined it, plus couldn’t empathise with the characters or suspend my disbelief from the moment it started (and what’s with the Japanese girl’s hellraiser-esque hotdog-looking ketchup and mustard face moment???) If you liked this film then do yourself a favour and watch Wolf Creek - which actually IS based on a true story, and despite also starring first-time, unknown actors and obviously being shot on a small budget is shocking, creepy and nightmarish while still being really gritty and real… something Hostel totally failed to be.
THIS MOVIE WAS GREAT WISH I COULD BE IN THAT CLUB FOR ONE DAY
Is anyone prepared to divulge a username and password for http://www.elitehunting.ru ? I want to play and this may just be a door that can be opened. As for the movie, Ho-Hum, i’ve seen better and i’ve seen worse. Maybe Hostel 2 will offer more of the tormenting and less of the average sex scenes. More importantly, wasn’t it mentioned by The American that he paid $50,000, for The Japanese girl I presume. Do I get fries with that, and can I upsize my meal?
god movie with a good ending, and lets be honest the theme of the film must exist in real life, how many pervert billionaires who got bored of life we have around, i think that when u got absolute money and power, u begin to replace god with urself, wouldnt be surprised if anything like that is happening right now in any corner of the world
I watched this movie and at first thought I was watching a cheap porno, but eventually the plot kicked in and I was shocked! The movie definately left me thinking if things like this really happen in the world…..it made me think of all the “missing people”…..and that made me sad. If someone can imagine this type of horrific act then I have to wonder if people are really doing this type of thing!
* I already watched the movie, an all I can say was “UNBELIEVABLE”…
it’s because, i can’t imagine that in the reality; what if, it’s real.. i had a noghtmare after that. Actually, i was about to vomit on the scene where Paxton cut the eye of Kana, because her face had been burned. Am i right?
By the way, have you checked the “hostel” official website? it’s website is: http://www.hostelfilm.com
please go to it’s website.. it’s fun…

I’m going to Bratislava. Who’s with me?
I bought this dvd, cause I am a big fan of Tarantino, and my husband enjoys horror movies (more than I do actually).
We watched this together, recently and coincidentally he (my hub) had been in Bratislava a few days earlier, for work, and he told me that the real city of Bratislava is huge, and that what they showed in the film, is obviously is a very small village, maybe close to it.
They should have mentioned that in the credits, but I saw nothing about this.
Anyway, I found teh Bratislava official website http://www.bratislava.sk/en/
chao.
Good film , enjoyed it and i’m a girl.! i love horror movies and gore, the hills have eyes is another good un..
sick but really cant stop watching ..
Yeah the film is actually filmed in the Czech town of Cesky Krumlov, not Bratislava. It’s a small town in southern Czech Republic, probably about 150 miles away from Bratislava. The Amsterdam scenes were also filmed in Prague, not Amsterdam.

@jonny holmes: The flick was a nice time-killer, and you are a pussy.
I just finished watching this movie…and *yawn*! Big whoopie….and I’m a GIRL—Tony Watson, you ass monkey. I’m more upset by your sexist comment than the movie.
Sorry…I just didn’t find it that terrible or disturbing…however…I was extremely pleased that Paxton kicked the stuffing out of the Dutch guy at the end! Brava!
The fact that I wasn’t impressed could have something to do with that I just came back from the oral surgeon—and had all my wisdom teeth yanked out —-without being knocked out. I dunno…maybe.
